Earlier this month Middlewich Clean Team launched the Clean Team Supporter Scheme. The scheme is intended to keep the town centre clean with the help of the businesses in and around Wheelock Street and encourages business owners to keep the areas around their premises tidy, while receiving help from the litter-picking volunteers.

Our Chairperson Janet Chisholm, said: “One of our committee members thought it might be a good idea to encourage local businesses to become supporters of the Middlewich Clean Team. There are a lot of businesses around Wheelock Street and Hightown but we have made a start and we have had such a positive response. It’s unbelievable. We have signed 19 businesses already, and no one has said they don’t want to be part of it. It’s now a matter of us visiting each business and explaining to them face to face. We will be visiting each premises in Middlewich. The idea is that when we have got this up and running smoothly to contact all the drinking establishments and ask them to come on board.”

In a letter to businesses, Vice Chairman Stephen Dent wrote: “We have recently become concerned about the amount of litter around town, most notably in Wheelock Street and the Bull Ring area. In order to improve this situation, we are asking if you would consider joining our Clean Team Supporter Scheme. This would involve agreeing to keep your business property fronts and outside areas litter, weed and cigarette butt free. The Clean Team hope that if you are seen to be actively doing this it will encourage others, of all ages to do the same and keep Middlewich looking beautiful. We would also like you to report to us, any problems you may have regarding litter so that we can help.”
